Revolutionizing women’s healthcare through AI

PROJECT OVERVIEW

At the Baddies in Tech Buildathon, I spearheaded a dynamic team comprising two UX designers, one developer, and one product manager, united by a shared vision to champion women's rights and leverage cutting-edge AI technology to address the pressing issue of underserved women accessing healthcare. With a laser focus on inclusivity and innovation, our collaborative effort aimed to revolutionize the healthcare landscape, empowering underserved women to navigate their health journey with dignity and ease.

Problem:

Underserved women face obstacles in accessing essential healthcare due to difficulties in connecting with trusted providers who meet their specific needs. Socioeconomic constraints, limited resources, and geographical barriers exacerbate these challenges, leaving many without vital care despite the availability of providers.

Goals:

  • Enhance accessibility to healthcare services by leveraging AI technology to match users with providers who align with their specific needs and preferences.

  • Empower underserved women to take control of their healthcare journey by providing them with comprehensive information and options tailored to their requirements.

  • Bridge the gap between underserved women and trustworthy healthcare providers by fostering meaningful connections through Hera's matching system.

Objectives:

  • Design and implement an intuitive and engaging user interface, ensuring ease of navigation and accessibility for underserved women.

  • Implement a robust filtering system that allows users to refine their provider search based on desired attributes such as gender, language, insurance acceptance, and patient reviews.

Learning about the users

Through the utilization of AI, I conducted user research and identified the diverse needs of underserved women in accessing healthcare providers, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of their preferences and challenges.

Upon researching, there were many competitors that provide similar products. We focused on 2 main competitors that were popular and use AI. We’ve highlighted key features these two competitors have.

Creating user personas

Using the information gathered through research, I created two user personas to provide a deeper understanding of user behavior and needs.

Sketching the AI chat box feature

I took the lead in creating a user flow allowed us to understand how the users would interact with our content. By understanding the user flow, we determined what steps a user needs to take a complete task , and how best lead them through out content.

Establishing user flows

I have sketched what the chat box could like look like as this will be the main feature of the product. I ensured I highlighted Hera, the AI that the users will interact with.

Creating mockups

Throughout our process of creating mockups for HeraHealth Network, our team embraced a mobile-first approach, prioritizing the design for the smallest screen first. Grounded in comprehensive user research, we meticulously crafted mockups that catered to the specific needs and preferences of underserved women, ensuring accessibility and ease of use were at the forefront of our design decisions. By focusing on designing for mobile devices initially, we ensured that our interfaces were optimized for smaller screens, enabling seamless navigation and access to vital healthcare resources for users across all devices. Our commitment to easability drove us to create intuitive interfaces that empowered underserved women to take control of their health journey with confidence and dignity, regardless of their device or accessibility needs.

Provider Filter Option

  • The provider filter option grants users the autonomy to explore healthcare providers at their own pace, offering filters based on gender, location, and provider type.

  • This empowering feature enables users to refine their search criteria, ensuring they find the perfect match to meet their specific healthcare needs.

DESIGN

Chat with AI

  • The voice-text feature enables users to engage with Hera through natural language, facilitating seamless communication and enhancing accessibility for users of all abilities.

  • The chat function offers pre-determined content and selectable options, streamlining the user experience for smoother interactions.

  • AI-driven Hera prompts users to specify additional preferences or attributes they desire in their healthcare providers, ensuring personalized matches tailored to their unique needs and preferences.

  • At the conclusion of the interaction, Hera utilizes the gathered user data to present a curated selection of matches, minimizing overwhelm while ensuring relevance. Users are empowered with the option to request more matches should they desire further exploration.

Creating brand and style

I was in charge of crafting the brand identity for our product. I drew inspiration from the majestic hues of Hera, the goddess of women and health, anchoring our color palette while ensuring accessibility compliance. Leveraging an AI image generator, I meticulously designed Hera's avatar, infusing it with authenticity and relevance. Subsequently, I curated a comprehensive style guide for our UI, harmonizing every element to resonate seamlessly with our brand ethos.

Provider Profile and Appointment

  • The provider profile feature showcases essential information including provider type, gender, location, contact details, a comprehensive overview, preview of reviews and ratings, and a dedicated review section for user feedback.

  • Users can seamlessly schedule appointments through a user-friendly interface featuring a simple date and time selection design, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Designing seamless interactions

In spearheading the interaction design phase, my co UX designer and I focused on creating intuitive pathways for users to effortlessly navigate HeraHealth Network’s platform, ensuring every interaction was purposeful and user-centric. By meticulously crafting the user experience, we aimed to empower underserved women to seamlessly connect with healthcare providers, fostering a journey of care and support.

Learning experience

During the intensive two-week period, I underwent a significant learning curve, honing my design process to efficiently tackle complex challenges. By immersing myself in the project, I strengthened my visual and interaction design skills while seamlessly collaborating with my team to achieve our collective goals. Although unable to conduct product testing within the timeframe, the experience highlighted the importance of iterative refinement, and given the opportunity, I am eager to engage in testing and iterate further to enhance HeraHealth Network's usability and effectiveness.
